At Legacy Conference 2015 in Chicago, Billboard-charting emcee Thi’sl spoke to Jam The Hype about ‘Heavy Is The Head,’ a collaboration with hip-hop legend Scarface, his relationship with Surf Gvng, the Illuminati, and more.
Thi’sl’s upcoming mixtape, ‘Heavy Is The Head,’ features Houston, Texas-based hip-hop legend Scarface. He talked to us about how putting Scarface on his record was once just a thought but through the help of a friend it actually happened.
“A friend of mine knows his manager and they hooked it up for another song,” Thi’sl said.
“I got two songs that I’m on with him. The other one was for somebody else. So when I got this new record I was like ‘It would sound dope to have Face on here.’ So it’s funny how at one point in life something can be a thought but this time we actually had the situation set up to make it work. We turned around and we put Face on the record. It is what it is.”
Some Christian hip-hop fans seem to have an obsession with the Illuminati, a secret society that desires world domination according to various conspiracy theorist. Hip-hop artists like Eminem, Jay Z, and Drake, among others, have been accused of being members of the organization. Even Reach Records has been accused of representing the Illuminati through symbolism in their art. Recently, Thi’sl was getting attacked for posting a joke on Facebook that was interpreted as promotion of the Illuminati for some. The St. Louis, Missouri-based lyricist deleted the post because things were getting out of hand with arguments and he didn’t see it as healthy for those who visited his page for the first time. The Fallen King-emcee doesn’t even believe the Illuminati is what most conspiracy theorist believe it is and was just attempting to crack a joke.
“So we were in South Florida at the art district with Surf Gvng and we took this picture,” Thi’sl said.
“I didn’t know once I took the picture. It was like a bull over my head with horns. So I was like ‘Yo, if we post this everybody is going to say this is Illuminati.’ So I post the picture, joking, with the hashtag Illuminati knowing it’s going to be an obvious joke but people ran with it. O my God, he is in the Illuminati blah blah blah. One, this is me, other people ain’t going to have this belief system, but I don’t even believe in Illuminati the way people believe it. The way most people believe and think the Illuminati is I don’t even believe that so it was a joke to me. People were like ‘This is something so serious. Why would you joke about the Illuminati.’ Like I was joking about Jesus’ resurrection or something.”

Thisl finally cracks and accepts a large amount of someone else’s money to put into Full Ride, his record label. Then Thisl posts that hilarious ‘joke’ about being Illuminati. Then Thisl owns a $500,000 car and is bragging about it in his new mixtape HITH. Then Thisl releases a single with a giant one eye on the cover. If I were some sort of insane conspiracy theorist, I might take a pen and connect those dots.
Thank heavens I’m not!
