Staten Island, New York-based emcee, HeeSun Lee, has announced that she parted ways with In My City Records in an interview with Jam The Hype’s Chris Chicago.

“For those of you who didn’t know I was signed to a record label, In My City Records, for a little over two years now and just recently through a mutual agreement we decided to part ways, so I am officially independent now,” Lee said.

The Korean-American female Christian rapper, who breaks stereotypes, is working on new music. A music video should come out in the near future. She is not sure if an EP or a full-length album is in the works and is hoping something will drop by the end of the year.

“I’ve already been starting on new music,” HeeSun Lee told Chris Chicago.

“A video is kind of coming soon. Just trying to rebrand myself. Get back out there. It was a little bit hard for me the last couple of months, it’s going better now.”

Lee is going the independent route for now but is still open to the idea of signing with a record company if it makes sense.

“Right now, I’m just riding the independent wave,” HeeSun Lee said.

“I’m never rejecting or against signing with any labels. Obviously, because everything that happened with my other label, just kind of make sure everything is perfect timing, everything is good, we both want the same things, all that good stuff. Everybody would do that before signing a contract anyways.”

She mentioned that there are no issues between her and In My City Records and they separated on good terms. Various circumstances led to HeeSun becoming an independent artist. Lee is a mother of two and pregnant so working on her own pace will be beneficial.

“We are still good friends, me and the label, we have no issues with each other,” Lee said.

“We separated on very good terms. It was just kind of I guess creative differences. A lot of things that were going on with them and with me. We just weren’t meshing well. The timing wasn’t going well. I don’t know if anybody knows this also, that I’m pregnant. That’s a whole other issue in itself. A lot of people do know that being an artist and having a kid and now having two and being pregnant, all that stuff that comes with motherhood and being an artist is very hard and you know when your signed to a label it can kind of get a little bit fishy, not in any bad way, just for the understandable reasons. You’re trying to make money, do shows, and it’s very unpredictable when you have a kid. Hopefully now that I’m independent I can do what I feel is right for me, especially now being pregnant as well, I can do it on my own pace.”

On January 21, 2014, HeeSun Lee dropped her billboard-charting album, ‘Stereotypes,’ which featured MC Jin, Social Club, and Chris Cobbins, among others.
