Testify-Music talks about “Struggle”: “Struggle” is a track from my upcoming mixtape entitled Nightmares! I wrote this song because I’m passionate about teenagers and youth ministry! And one of the things I often tell the students is that there is a real struggle going on in Montgomery, Alabama. Since 2013 there has been over 113 homicides within the city! And the majority of the victims are teenagers who don’t know Jesus and who are unable to control their anger! This song was created to spread awareness about violence and how we as the church need to start praying more for God to make Himself known to the teenagers of Montgomery, as well as the entire United States. The song features my brother in Christ Gabriel Carter who’s focused on ministering to people who “Gang Bang” and live within the hood.”
Lyrics:
Let me take you on journey
Through the streets of my city
And show you the real struggle
Testify!
[Verse 1 – Testify-Music]
What you know bout that struggle?
What you know bout that pain?
What you know bout dead bodies and decapitated veins?
It seems like every other week
Somebody’s dead
Waiting to be buried 6 feet deep!
People laying in them caskets, regretting everything they did
No signs of hope
Never prayed to God except when they were kids!
Now they lyin in a box cause they wanna slang some dope!
This is the future of my city
Less we start to make some change
Man I’m tired of seeing my race
Growing up thinking its okay to tout that thang
Getting mad, full of range
Shots fired, here comes amberlance
Ain’t nobody playing games no mo
Police wake you up at night, bangin on yo doe
God I’m praying for my city
Please wake them up inside
Cause at the rate they’re going
Ain’t gone be nothing but a pool of blood like a Suicide!
America, keep my city in your prayers
Cause at the rate they’re going
They’ll spend their whole life, with their hands in the air
[Chorus]
It’s going down in my city
When the night time hits, better put up your fists
(It’s going down in my city)
They say the key to being a man, is keeping a nine in ya hand
(It’s going down in my city)
Every day it’s a struggle to survive, that’s why they need you on they side
Lord I pray you make yourself known
Cause the struggle is real, and your people are dying alone
That’s why, they need you to bring em to their rightful home
[Verse 2 – Testify-Music]
Now I’m no famous artist
But let me paint you picture
Let me tell em bout that struggle
Survival of the fittest
I’m swinging through the jungle
Time to give ‘em all the bizness
You have no clue what I’ve been through
Don’t act like you know, cause I’m not you
Picture a little boy picked on every day at school, because his clothes weren’t cool
Now picture the same little boy being raped by a girl in her 20s
Nowhere to run, but down
Sink or drown
Thru a lot pennies into the “fountain of life”
Wishing I could overcome this “mountain called life”
But I had no faith up in myself
No confidence at all
The kids look so big
And I feel so itty bitty small
Tell me what I’m supposed to do?
Cause I really don’t have a clue
I’ve been searching all my life, but all I found was bitterness
And I’m sick of this
So I’ma put my mask on and dress like the cool kids
Cause round here we masked up, like it’s Halloween
I’m eighteen, and this is the world that I’m livin in
Real struggle…
Repeat Chorus
[Verse 3 – Ga’Briel]
Yeah, Ugh
At home is where you replenish
You suffering from the start
How bout crossin over the finish
They slayin’ up in the streets
They bad until they get sentenced, regrettin’ what they done did
Hoping all the of pain diminish
Menace to society
Can’t even keep your sobriety
Doin’ it by yourself, and realizing yo there’s no I in He
Family member on the stretcher and they dyin G
Hold in ya tears, cause ya homies say crying’s weak
Awe man it’s a new day, the sun’s out
Angels over your shoulders, no need to bring the guns out
If you lookin’ for good, well trust me there’s tons out
It never runs out
Something you know nothing bout
Take His hand, take a chance, make a change yo
Take a stand, raise His name, hear the pain yo
Clouds moving over so the light shines
Yeah I’m in my right mind
Rain’s gone, now it’s time He fights mine
[Chorus]
It’s going down in my city
When the night time hits, better put up your fists
(It’s going down in my city)
They say the key to being a man, is keeping a nine in ya hand
(It’s going down in my city)
Every day it’s a struggle to survive, that’s why they need you on they side
Lord I pray you make yourself known
Cause the struggle is real, and your people are dying alone
That’s why, they need you to bring em to their rightful home (rightful home)
