There is no question that CHH is blowing up and reaching a lot of ears these days but have you ever wondered where it all started? Who were some of the pioneers, the first to do it? Ever hear of The Disciples of Christ (D.O.C.)? They were some of those early pioneers in the Christian Rap game and they just announced that they are making a comeback.
They originated in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1989. They released three albums for Star Song Records and later formed their own label, We are One/Throne Room Records.
This is from their face book page “DOC REIGNITED” –
“Family what an amazing weekend. Mission accomplished. The single is recorded. Now on to mixing and mastering. Can’t wait for you guys to hear it. Thank you all for covering us in your prayers. The creativity, synergy and presence of God freely flowed. We could not do it without you guys. We are now writing the story board for the music video. We will keep you posted on the progress. We are working on a cameo appearance in the video by a R&B legend. Continue to prayer for favor. My best friends are all back home with their families. I miss them already, but peep the smiles, tho..Here We Come!! #DOCreignited #legacy #livinglegends #since1989”
Member Alton Hood also had this to say on Easter Sunday – “Good morning Fam! I hope y’all had a great Resurrection Sunday. Things are starting to heat up with operation Reignite. DOC will be accepting spot dates for late summer, early fall 2015”
Check out this jam from their 1991 album So How Ya Livin?
Keep it locked to JTH to hear their new single when it drops!
What do you think of this Disciples of Christ comeback?
Man! I remember when these guys dropped their ‘Righteous Funk’ CD. Interested to see how this goes!
Cheeeehoooo!
Praise God for these mighty Men of God!
First Ziklag boys got reunited and did their newest Album which was bonkers!!
Now we have legendary D.O.C. back in the booth!!
I remember playing “Step 2 my daddy” and “Get Anointed” in my cassette tape deck.
They could very well be another reason why I am a rapper too!
Good seed will produce much fruit!
God Bless You D.O.C. and Rapzilla for keeping us all in the loop!
Now the only thing left for me to do is copy this article and send it to my sister
we used to jam D.O.C. together back in the day.
Her favorite song was Step 2 my daddy.
I know she will be excited and blessed to hear the news!
Blessings and you have our full support and prayers D.O.C.!
