New single from Jhan Doe. Featuring Sevin (Hog Mob) and Sypher; State of Mind is from Jhan Doe’s latest album Dreams of Illumination available on iTunes now.
About Jhan Doe:
Born and raised in south city St. Louis, Missouri, Jhan Doe spent a lot of time in the streets around drug dealers and gang bangers from a young age. His father put him in a youth choir shortly after an arrest at age 12, to keep him off the streets and out of trouble. He was taken under the wings of a youth pastor and his poetry/rap published at age 13, and began performing and preaching in streets and parks shortly thereafter. The name Jhan Doe comes from the philosophy that without God (we have) no identity. The spelling comes from his original birth name.
About ‘State of Mind’:
A homeless stint, degree, 6 mixtapes and 3 albums straight from the trunk later, he began disciplining his brother Knotice Hymn (Nick Whickam) who died a little more than a year later (Nov 2011) ushering in a 3 year hiatus. This song represents that loss due to drug relapse and the message to the church to “change your state of mind” and transcend the cultural normality. His request before he died became fulfilled when Sevin agreed to finish the song. This song is also dedicated to the tragedies in the 314, Ferguson/Florissant, St. Louis. God bless.
