An unlikely story stands behind the man known by many as “JMartyr”. Behind the lyrics, a rocky road provides a window of grace he has experienced throughout his life, with every situation molding him into the man of God and artist that he is today. Raised by his mother, alongside 7 other siblings, in a poverty-stricken community, JMartyr was the only boy with forced him to grow and mature mentally beyond his years. Despite the odds that had surrounded him; JMartyr was introduced to Christ at the tender age of 11 and quickly discovered his passion for rap music. Shortly thereafter, JMartyr would grow to be a leader in the movement of global and urban reform in his community. At 13 he began to minister with a rap group from his local church (E.B.E. Crew) performing and speaking at prisons, youth conferences, skating rinks, homeless shelters and wherever, to whomever would hear the Gospel. Through these ventures many would come to recognize that the passion and zeal observed was truly a young man with a heart after God. He later went on to release 3 (self-produced) albums with the group, but this was only the beginning. After the group disbanded, JMartyr began to pursue a solo career until God allowed him to cross paths with an old friend (Stas Shevtsov) and the rest was history! The two joined forces and founded “The Big Idea” based off of Romans 12:2, with the vision of refusing to conform to the culture but rather impact it through the power of the Gospel by means of Hip Hop music. JMartyr released his first solo project under the label in 2009 titled “The Arrival “; an EP that quickly gained notoriety with tracks like “Got the light” ft Street Pastor and “Crisco”. That same year, JMartyr released a much anticipated mixtape, titled “Back From the Future” which has him now recognized by many as one of the most stimulating lyricists of his time! JMartyr has been igniting audiences with his bold technique and rhythmic parables for years now and the best has yet to come! |
