New York-representative & Detroit, Michigan-based emcee Mahogany Jones is gearing up to release new music in the form of a project titled PURE. Jones’ album PURE comes out on February 4.

For those unfamiliar with Mahogany Jones, she is a 4x BET 106 & Park Freestyle Friday champion, member of the Yuinon, and a respected poet. The lyricist has shared stages with noteworthy artists like Dead Prez, Rah Digga, The Roots, Indie Arie, Gil Scott Heron, Talib Kweli, and Kem, to name a few.

The last album she released was Morphed. 

Mahogany Jones statement (In regards to PURE‘s mature content label):

The project’s purpose is to critically analyze if we as a society view women through God’s view or not and how a distorted view is affecting us as a whole, in hopes that we will shift our view so we begin to heal. The project is very intentional about tackling experiences women encounter like sexual and domestic abuse, and abortion, among other topics that aren’t so “mature” and helping women heal. We didn’t want a parent to purchase this for their 10 year old without sitting with them and engaging them in dialogue about some very tough issues.
