J Prophet, also known as The Ghostwriter, hails from Mt. Vernon, NY by way of Cleveland, OH. A child of poetry, he performed Langston Hughes’s “I, Too, Sing America” in church at the age of 4. His grandmother proved to be a major influence on him as she challenged him, even at an early age, to use the written and spoken word to express every fiber of his emotion. He has also been artistically touched by the contributions of such powerful figures as Hughes, Gwendolyn Brooks, Nikki Giovanni, and Elizabeth Alexander.
While he is inherently a poet, Hip-Hop culture also emerged as a deep passion. Instead of identifying solely with mainstream rap music, however, J Prophet chooses to use his gift to glorify the one who gave him the gift in the first place. As he has been called to serve the Kingdom of God, he uses HolyHopGospelPraiseRapMusik to lift Jesus Christ, his savior. This is more than music; it’s a ministry. And this is more than an appeal for religion; it’s encouragement to develop a relationship with God. This Urban Gospel sound has been deeply influenced by Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, Cross Movement, and Lecrae.
