New-Year-New-Style-Artwork

When secular artists dedicate songs to God, they’re usually slow, somber and lowly. They often don’t have the confidence and identity in Christ to speak on God and the things of God with boldness. They use the one “God” song as penance, while often devoting the majority of tracks on their album to glorifying everything that’s offensive to God. So when the world sees gifted rappers using their talents to glorify God with confidence and authority, they often are surprised and didn’t think that it could even be done. They’ve often never seen anyone lay down their crown, give their glory to another and revel in it unashamedly. Gospel Hip Hop has come SO far, but it’s not a mainstream phenomenon, so a lot of places that I venture into, people often say “I’ve never heard anyone rap about God like that.” So “New Year New Style” is just reveling in our ability as Christians to have confidence before God because we are in right standing with Him, having accepted the free gift of salvation and are now made clean through the blood of Jesus. They ain’t never seen a swag like that! Lol.

My new album is almost finished and is titled “Hip Hop 101: Language Arts.” The concept of the album revolves around the premise that Hip Hop is literally language art and is not something that God can use by default, but is something God created. It’s a voice that God has given to an oppressed and voiceless people. Guest appearances include Saint Joogs, Richie Righteous, Sean Slaughter and Datin. More than 50% of the production on the album has been done by CHH newcomer and Hip-hop veteran T-Wyla. Other producers include J-Pierre, Phillip Dale and Daneja.
